In Honor of National Girls and Women in Sports Day

Did you know that February 2, 2022 is National Girls and Women in Sports Day? It's an annual day of observance held during the first week of February to acknowledge the accomplishments of female athletes, recognize the influence of sports participation for women and girls, and honor the progress and continuing struggle for equality for women in sports.

National Girls and Women in Sports Day Title IX Women's Sports Foundation

This year also happens to mark the 50th Anniversary of Title IX, the namesake and inspiration for Society Nine's brand name (need a refresher on what Title IX is all about, and how it inspired our company? Read our About Us page here!)

According to the Women's Sports Foundation, National Girls and Women in Sports Day began in 1987 as a special day in our nation's capital to recognize women's sports. The day brought together premiere organizations and elite women athletes to bring national attention to the promise of girls and women in sports.

The Women's Sports Foundation is doing activations ALL year to commemorate Title IX, and to continue to raise awareness around how much further we have to go in the fight for gender equality in sports. Title IX was the ultimate catalyst for creating strong women leaders, in sports and life. In small and large ways, we all must continue to advocate to protect Title IX and continue to fight for gender equity in all aspects of sport including marketing, representation, access and pay. According to studies, girls are two times more likely to drop out of sports participation by age 14 than boys.

Here at Society Nine, we're committed playing our part with regards to femme representation in combat sports fitness at all levels, from competitive to amateur to recreational. It's important for all femmes to see what they can be, which is why we support incredible organizations like BoxUnited (which, by the way, if you buy a pair of our Bia Lace Ups, we donate a pair directly to their Fight Like A Girl program!) We have always believed that it doesn't matter if you're throwing a punch for the first time, or have championship belts to your name. What matters is that you know we see you and support you, no matter where you are in your journey.

In honor of this special day, get 50% off our Bia Lace Ups using code BOXUNITED50 from 2/2-2/4!
